HTML5? WTF!?
HTML5 is a new "HyperText Markup Language" (AKA: the funny-looking code that makes websites all over the internet work) that is going to revolutionize the way web developers create web-based content. Essentially, HTML5 changes the way that the "code" for websites is written and organized and also how that code interacts with multimedia content like games, videos and music. HTML5 is going to make browsing the internet easier and more enjoyable for users while also making it less frustrating to work with for developers.
Holy Smokes, Narrow It Down a Little!
Okay, so there's a lot of cool stuff to know about HTML5. In fact, there's way too much to talk about in just fifteen minutes, so we're going to keep things short. Instead of going over all the nit-picky information about what makes HTML5 so special we're just going to cover the 'need-to-know' information on multimedia integration and HTML5. Basically, it comes down to taking about:
- The new HTML5 "media" elements
- Audio element
- Video element
- Embed element
- The new HTML5 "canvas" element
What all that means is this: HTML5 makes displaying and integrating multimedia into any web page a lot simpler. It also makes it more accessible to different devices (like an iPhone or iPad, for example)—a key place where HTML4 fails as a universal markup language.
